The beginning of October saw temperatures in Germany drop some 20 degrees Celsius and rain is common during this time of the year.
But Josef Ortmeier, President of the idyllic Bavarian host club, GC Landshut - www.golf-landshut.de - must hold favors with the heavens!
It poured the day before the tournament, it poured the day after the tournament, and although thick dark clouds loomed over the final leg of the 2011 MERCK-FINCK CUP Series on October 12, not a single drop hit the ground!
The tournament series was a resounding success and to top things off, Frank Dirksen, Director of MERCK-FINCK & Co. Private Bankers, announced the renewal of the sponsorship deal with Josef Ortmeier and GC Landshut for 2012. Smiles were all around with organizers GC Landshut, sponsor MERCK-FINCK, as well as a large turn-out of participants, one of them Keanu, and he was likewise smiling...
The newly crowned Reichswald Nürnberg Club Champion, who had won and placed 2nd in two previous MERCK-FINCK CUPS, also decided the last leg of the prestigious series for himself.
Although howling winds toyed with many, Keanu kept his composure at 2-over par. The Reichswald gunner only conceded bogeys on 17 and 18, while his closest competitors, Andreas Vogt of GC Landshut and GC Am Reichswald Nürnberg team-mate Timothy Rauth, came in at 6 and 5-over par, respectively.
After being awarded by Josef Ortmeier, Frank Dirksen and GC Landshut manager Toni Leitermann, Keanu received an unexpected encore. He had also tied Landshut stalwart and +0.9 handicapper, Andreas Vogt, for 1st place in the 2011 MERCK-FINCK CUP Series and the organizers decided to forego a play-off and awarded joint-1st place to Jahns and Vogt.
Final results for the series were recorded as Keanu Jahns and Andreas Vogt tied for 1st with 106 points, while Timothy Rauth took 3rd place with 101.
Congratulations to the winners as well as Golfclub Landshut and MERCK-FINCK & Co. Private Bankers for hosting and sponsoring a very popular tournament series.
Keanu now moves on to the final tournament of his 2011 season in Europe, the prestigious HEINRICH BARTH Trophy at his home club, GC Am Reichswald Nürnberg. Shortly before his departure back to Asia, he will also undergo bio-metric testing and analysis with the German National Team and National Coach, Ulrich Eckhardt.
