Marc-André Gehr, senior player of GC Am Reichswald Nuernberg's AK18 team, fired another great round for his late Grandpa and tallied his score at a fabulous 3-under par 69 during the 2nd day singles stroke-play matches at the GERMAN TEAM Championship at Golf Fleesensee - www.golfclub-fleesensee.de .
Together with Frankfurt's Sebastian von den Hoff's 69, Gehr's score was also recorded as the best singles round of the prestigious 2011 GERMAN TEAM Championship.
Gehr's Grandpa, who had introduced him to golf, recently passed away and team-mates were one in rallying around Marc-André.
Other Reichswald players, who contributed to the renown club's good second day recovery, were Keanu Jahns at 2-under par (70), Timothy Rauth with an even-par 72, and Matthias Wuerzinger with 3-over par (75). Youngster Moritz Spindler at 14 years, also held his own with 5-over par until hole #18. But Spindler had an unfortunate 2nd shot veering off into the high rough on the right side of the 18th green, eventually resulting in a double-par and a total score of 9-over par.
In contrast to a great 2nd day team result and Gehr's sensational 3-under, the Reichswald team had an unfortunate start, to say the least. How was it possible that these youngsters, rich on talent and potential, failed so obviously during foursome stroke-play on day 1? Reichswald captains Christian Schlosser and Julian Hacker will surely put their minds to analyzing the 7, 13 and 14-over par results of the day 1 pairings. Maybe a shuffle of partners will do the trick in 2012?
But maybe attitude may also be an important issue and the advice of one of the true greats of the game may come in handy, if one wants to learn and be part of what could be a great Reichswald AK18 team in 2012...
RESPECT FOR THE GAME, EXPERIENCE, SHEER GRIT AND DETERMINATION!
"Many good golfers never live up to their full potential, because they never learned the secret of developing a courageous on-course attitude. These are babies who throw clubs, continually cuss themselves out, sulk or even walk off the course after one too many bad bounces or bad holes. Their problem is, they expect perfection, whereas the complete and intelligent and courageous golfer respects the game's unpredictability, takes it in stride, and gets on with the job as best he possibly can. Even when he's having an absolutely awful day, this player still gives every shot 100% concentration. His final score is his absolute best for that day, and biting the bullet like this hardens him for future rounds. Courage is not inherited, but developed through a combination of experience, sheer grit, and determination."
