Keanu continues his string of successes and qualifies for the 2011 GERMAN AK OPEN Championship.
Four 36-hole qualifiers were played in different locations throughout Germany on July 9 and 10, to determine the best German amateur golfers. At stake are the prestigious GERMAN OPEN Championship titles for men and women. Competition is open to all age-classes. Only the top-10 players in each qualifying event plus the subsequent 20 best players from the combination of all qualifying events, make it to the GERMAN Championship.
The 2011 GERMAN AK OPEN will be staged at Golf Club Gleidingen - www.golf-gleidingen.de - from September 8 to 11, 2011.
While Keanu's father Johannes was concerned, that missing the 2011 AK16 BAVARIAN CHAMPIONSHIP due to a registration oversight, may still be a disappointment for Keanu, the lad produced a 1-over par 73 on the first day at GC Schwaebisch Halll - www.gc-sha.de - laying a good foundation for advancing.
Keanu's 2nd day result though was mixed and marred by interruptions.
While Keanu's flight with Florian Schweitzer of GC Feldafing and Matthias Wild of GC Mannheim-Viernheim, were already on the green addressing, a club member of GC Schwaebisch Hall screamed at a lady fore-caddy of the following flight to get off the course. The players were rattled and Keanu promptly left his putt short, resulting in a bogey.
Again, on the par-5 hole #17, lengthy discussions with a marshal interrupted the players' rhythm.
Most competitors had taken the short-cut across the fairway of #18 the same morning and previous day, but the marshal forced a tee-off onto the fairway of #17 by placing his cart in the path of the intended tee-shot.
Understandably, the players found it difficult to accept this ruling, particularly since there was no sign and other flights had already benefited from the same tee-off option. Arguments ensued, although the players salvaged acceptable scores after all - Florian Schweitzer at 2-over 74, Matthias Wild at 3-over 75, and Keanu at 4-over par 76.
Fortunately, all three qualified and will contend the GERMAN OPEN at GC Gleidingen from September 8 to 11.
In the meantime, Keanu and his Dad moved on to GC Schloss Liebenstein, where the 15-year old will again compete in the GERMAN BUNDESLIGA from July 12 to 17, this time though with his team-mates of Golfclub Am Reichswald Nuernberg (picture). At stake is promotion to the 1. Bundesliga, Germany's highest golf league.
Adds Jahns Sr.: "I'm sure, Keanu will again play well! His Mom just joined us from Manila and Nerissa is always a great inspiration for all of us! It's great to have the family complete again, while Keanu's elder brother John is also close-by in Munich..."
