Coming from their success of securing 2012 class 1 competition with a 4th place for GC Am Reichswald Nuernberg during the BAVARIAN TEAM CUP in Oberfranken, Landshut resident Timothy Rauth signed up team-mates Matthias Wuerzinger, Moritz Spindler and Keanu Jahns to compete in the MERCK-FINCK Herren CUP at GC Landshut on June 15.
A practice round was not possible for Keanu due to tight schedule, while Wuerzinger, Spindler and Rauth reside in Landshut and call the club - www.golf-landshut.de - their own.
But home favorite Timothy Rauth, who had won the previous MERCK-FINCK CUP with 2-under par, had an "off-day", while Keanu was in great disposition, coming from his under-par performance at the BAVARIAN TEAM CUP. The fabulous setting of GC Landshut did the rest.
Inspired by scenic fairways and immaculate greens, Keanu fired 6 birdies on the par-73 course, but also collected 3 bogeys to submit a score sheet at 3-under par 70.
Home guns Andreas Vogt, who occupied a respectable 8th place during the recent AK Open BAVARIAN Championship at GC Augsburg, and Julian Hilbertz of GC Landshut likewise tallied at 3-under par. But Keanu took the championship on count-back, having played birdie on the handicap 1 hole number 2.
Matthias Wuerzinger, who is working himself into a solid position in the 1st Men's Team of GC Am Reichswald Nuernberg, also put up an impressive performance. Wuerzinger was 2-under par going into 18, then fired a marvelous shot over the water-hazard back-spinning the ball within 8 feet from the pin. But the happy-go-lucky youngster missed the birdie by a hairline to yet record a respectable 4th place.
After the 18th, the boys of course gave Keanu a "thrashing" for invading their home-course; from left to right, Moritz Spindler, Matthias Wuerzinger, and Keanu enduring the pain...
Keanu now moves on to play the PRO-AM on June 20 at GC Glashofen-Neusass, together with his European PRO, David Blakeman.
